Penukonda
Penukonda means a big hill. Historical records state that Penukonda, known as "Ghanagiri" or "Ghanadri", was the second capital to the Vijayanagar kings. It is evident from ancient inscriptions that the Penukonda Fort was built during the reign of Vira Virupanna Udaiyar, the son of king-Bukka I of Vijayanagar. The fort's architectural style and sculptures is a standing testimony to the skilled workmanship present during the Vijayanagar rule. |

Bhadrachalam
Bhadrachalam is one of the major pilgrim centre in Andhra Pradesh for Hindus. This city is famous for the temple of Sri Rama built by Bhakta Ramadasa during 1630 AD. Ramadasu was a devotee of Lord Rama. The temple has been constructed beside the banks of river Godavari and has been renovated recently. Situated in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh, the place is also surrounded by Chattisghad and Orissa states. There will be a festival in each year during the month of April (Rama Navami day) in Bhadrachalam. |
Vijaywada
This ancient city over 2000 years old is located at the head of the Krishna delta 70 Kms away from the coast and is surrounded by bare granite hills. Originally known as Bejjawada, its current name is believed to be after Goddess Kanakadurga or Vijaya, the presiding deity. During the Qutb Shahi rule Vijayawada was an important inland port. Today it is a major industrial hub of Andhra Pradesh and is about 256 Kms east of Hyderabad.
A colossal granite Buddha statue in the museum bears witness to the fact that Vijayawada was an important Buddhist site in the 7th century. The other attractions here include the Hindu temples, the ancient rock cave temples, 2000 years old Jain Temples and Amaravathi one of the most important Buddhist sites.

Annavaram

Mahanandi Mahanandi is at a distance of 320 kilometers from Hyderabad city and just 16 kilometers from Nandyal. Mahanandi lies in the thickly wooded Nallamalai hills in Nandyal taluka and in Kurnool District. There is a temple of Sri Mahanandiswara Swamy in the shape of a Linga.
The Mahanandi is one of the nine Nandis in India. It has an outstanding feature of the crystalline water in the temple and that water flows throughout the whole year from the five perennial springs. This water source is so abundant, that on this alone source 100 acres of banana plantation are irrigated.

Mantralaya
This is the "jeevan samadhi of Mantralyam Saint Raghavendraswamy. A large number of followers and devotees of all religious sects throng this little town located on the banks of river Tungabhadra all through the year. A temple has been constructed at the spot where he performed penance known as the Panchamukhi Anjaneyaswamy temple.
Kanakadurga
Built atop a hill, the Kanka Durga temple is synonymous with Vijayawada. It is among the important mentioned in the sacred texts. Adi Sankara is believed to have visited the temple and installed the 'Sri Chakra' here. On the way to the Kanakadurga temple are the rock-cut carve dedicated to akkanna and Madanna, Ministers in the court of Abul hasan Tanashah, the 17th century Qutub Shahi ruler.Kanaka Durga, the goddess of power, riches and benevolence is the presiding deity of Vijayawada.
